There is a charismatic and versatile artist about to embark on a journey that will one day place him in the ranks of great musicians. Abdus Muhammad II, a.k.a. “Duce” is a 28-year-old songwriter/singer ready to take on the challenge of success in the music industry.
Born and raised in Boston, MA, his years of living in Raleigh, NC have given him that southern appeal that mixes precisely with his urban edge. Abdus's love of music began in high school when he realized he had the gift to sing and write artistically. Nowadays he wants to use his gift to bring back that “soulful and fun” groove that has gone astray in much of today's music.
Abdus, whose name means “peaceful one”, grew up listening to and being inspired by a variety of artists such as The Delfonics, James Brown, Michael Jackson, Prince, Kenneth “Babyface” Edmonds, Patti Labelle, and Whitney Houston just to name a few. Abdus's voice is a soulful contradiction in that it is raspy and forceful, yet smooth and sultry at the same time. His talent for using pen and paper to create magic is extraordinary. The songs he writes are inspired by love, sadness, and everyday situations, and he is very comfortable expressing his thoughts through his writing.
“My music is about life, the way I feel, and what goes on around me,” explains Abdus. “Yes I write about love, but I also write about other aspects of life such as having fun, and issues relevant in today's society.”
